Pressalit has entered into a new sponsorship agreement with para-taekwondo fighter Lisa Kjær Gjessing whose goal it is to qualify for the Paralympic Games in Tokyo in 2020 when taekwondo will be part of the official Paralympic program for the very first time.
An important step on the road to the Paralympics is her participation in the 2019 World Para- Taekwondo Championships in Antalya, Turkey, where Lisa will be fighting for her fifth Word Championship title.
Today, February 5h, 2019, the para-taekwondo fighter Lisa Kjær Gjessing will go into the ring for a day of intensive fighting in Antalya, Turkey. Here she will be striving to win her fifth World Championship in a row – as well 100 important points on the World Rankings list which may ensure her participation in the Paralympic Games in Tokyo, 2020.
Shortly before her departure to Turkey, Lisa met Pressalit’s co-owner Dan Boyter to sign a new sponsorship agreement which implies that Pressalit as of now will support Lisa until the end of 2020.
- I feel confident that our cooperation will be close and interesting, says Lisa Kjær Gjessing who lives in Ry with her family, not far from the production facilities of Pressalit.
Trained in Miami
Lisa Kjær Gjessing and the national coach Bjarne Johansen have been training intensively during the last year – particularly in the months prior to this year’s World Championship. E.g. she went to a training camp in Miami.
Viewed in the light of these facts, the expectations are naturally high with regard to her participation in the World Championships, although there are 17 strong opponents from all continents in her weight category.
- Of course I hope to win, but it’s also very important for me to develop and hold on to my style and strength in the matches. There are many skilfull fighters in my category who fight hard to qualify for the Paralympic Games and they will all fight relentlessly to win gold and to get the accompanying 100 World Rankings points. These will be precious when the PL participants are to be found. I expect to have three matches and as I am seeded number one, I will hopefully sit out the first round, she says.
Although she is 100 per cent serious when fighting in the ring, Lisa Gjessing also sees the World Championships as a very important personal experience.
- I look forward to participating, it’s something really huge and the World Championships are always made into a special event. Gradually I have become acquainted with an incredible amount of people in taekwondo. I look forward to meeting old friends and being updated on the progress of taekwondo in general.
More championships to come
Later in 2019 Lisa will be facing several other international competitions. The fact is that it’s of decisive importance for her to keep topping the World Rankings list as the top four automatically qualify for participating in the Paralympic Games in Tokyo, 2020.
Therefore, she will be in action as early as one week after the World Championships when African Para Taekwondo Open takes places.
